THE DESIGNER

A spatial thinker.
A visual storyteller.

I'm Silas, an architectural designer from North Carolina whose perspective was shaped by growing up on the other side of the world.

At six years old, I moved from North Carolina to Beijing, China, where I attended an international school and spent the next twelve years growing up. Living and studying alongside people from different backgrounds opened my eyes to other cultures and ways of life. Those experiences inspired me to pursue architecture as a way to design for, learn from, and work with people from around the world.

While living there, I traveled throughout Asia, keeping my Nikon D5300 with me wherever I went. Photography gave me a way to pay closer attention to the light in a street, the scale of a building, and the people who give a place its character. Those photographs became a record of the places I visited and the details that caught my eye.

I returned to the United States for university and earned my Bachelor of Arts in Architecture at UNC Charlotte in 2025. Architecture brought together my interest in visual storytelling and my curiosity about how people experience space. The habit of looking closely, first developed behind a camera, continues to inform how I approach design.

Today, I work on multifamily architecture at The Housing Studio in Charlotte. My work connects architectural design with the drawings, details, and coordination needed to develop it. I enjoy collaborating with a project team to work through challenges and turn ideas into thoughtful, well-resolved spaces.

Outside of practice, I continue exploring photography, digital art, and independent video game design. Whether I'm composing an image, developing a building, or creating an interactive environment, I'm interested in how the details of a place shape the experience of being there.

My introduction to art and design began with self-taught photography. Traveling across Asia and through national parks in the United States gave me a way to explore light, composition, and the character of a place.
